PADI ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR

During training to become a PADI Assistant Instructor you gain additional experience as a PADI Professional Scuba Diver and also start learning the PADI system of diving education. Working as an instructional scuba diving assistant and taking limited teaching responsibilities is a great way to develop yourself to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

 

 

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN PADI ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR?

The PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) course is the first segment to the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) and if followed up by the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor course (OWSI) and then a successful completion of the PADI Instructor Examination (IE) leads to certification as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI). Learning to focus your abilities to organize and supervise scuba diving activities and developing teaching skills through:

  • Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations
  • Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations
  • Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO ME?

As well as the responsibilities and duties you already have taken onboard as a PADI Divemaster, as a PADI Assistant Instructor you can:

  • Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
  • Teach PADI Specialty courses under the direction of a PADI Instructor.Teach academic presentations under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
  • During confined water dives, present initial skills training under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor

TRAINING OVERVIEW

During your course you'll develop your skills as a instructional assistant, giving practical experience in teaching academic and water session portions of PADI courses like Open Water, Skin diver, Peak Performance Buoyancy and Discover Scuba. You also take part in study sessions about PADI Standards and Administration as well as the structure of the dive industry and marketing ideas.

After completing this course you will be very well prepared for the Instructor Course. You will also be able to enrol in
the Emergency First Response Instructor Course and teach any non-diving specialty after completing the training course.
As well you will be able to teach academic portions of any PADI Course and certify students who have completed the Peak Performance Buoyancy Course.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Be a PADI Divemaster or qualifying certification from another certification organization
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have 60 logged dives, including night, deep, and navigation dives
  • Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months
  • Have CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months
  • Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months .
