Types of Visas for Thailand

Tourist Visa (TR Visa)

Ideal for: Short-term visitors (up to 60 days)
Extension: Can be extended once for an additional 30 days at a Thai immigration office

Education Visa (ED Visa) for Students

Ideal for: Those enrolling in extended scuba diving training programs (Divemaster & Instructor courses)
Duration: Initially 90 days, extendable up to 1 year
Requirements: Proof of enrollment in a certified school

Special Tourist Visa (STV) (Limited Availability)

Ideal for: Long-term visitors planning to stay 6-9 months
Initial validity: 90 days
Extensions: Can be extended twice for 90 days each (total stay of 9 months)
Requirements: Proof of accommodation, insurance, and financial means

Thailand eVisa: The New Online Visa Application System

Thailand now offers an eVisa system, making it easier for travelers to apply for a visa online before arriving. This system eliminates the need to visit a Thai Embassy in person for many nationalities.

Do I Need a Visa For Thailand?

For most visitors to Thailand you will gain a visa on arrival (good for 60days stay) this can be extended for a further 30days giving you a total of 90days in the kingdom. For long term stay in Thailand you may need to apply and pay for a longer-term visa unless you wish to visit a neighboring country and return to Thailand where you will gain another visa on arrival.
